WARD PRATER
ADA-Services for Worden "Ward" Prater, 87, of Ada, are 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the Criswell Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. Shawn Wiebers will officiate. Burial will follow at Rosedale Cemetery. The Chickasaw Honor Guard will conduct military honors at the cemetery.
Mr. Prater died Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at the Norman Veterans Center. He was born February 16, 1925 at Eagletown, Oklahoma to George Henry and Jimmie Belle Smith Prater. He attended schools in Eagletown and Broken Bow.
He married Jean Ross on May 21, 1948. He and his family moved to Ada in 1951 from Dallas, TX. Mr. Prater was a watchmaker and gunsmith. His business was located in the Julianna Hotel in Ada. Mr. Prater was a member of Crosspointe Church, a lifetime active member of the Disabled American Veterans, and had served in the U. S. Marine Corps in Saipan during World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Jean Prater, of the home; two sons, Wesley T. Prater of Norman, OK, and Jesse W. Prater and his wife Susan of Stillwater, OK; a daughter, Chrystal H. Ganzer and her husband Steve of New Market, Maryland; three grandchildren, Dolph Prater, Casper, Wyoming, Gretchen Prater and Alexis Prater, both of Minneapolis, Minnesota; two brothers, George Prater, Illinois and Jimmy Prater, Winder, Georgia; and two sisters, Sue Frederick, Elmore City, OK and Joyce Cruz, Atlanta, Georgia.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Aubrey Prater; and a sister, Louise Simpson.
Bearers will be the Chickasaw Honor Guard.
