MURL PENN
ADA-Services for Willis Murl Penn, 97, Ada, are 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Criswell Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. John Haynes will officiate. Burial will follow at Rosedale Cemetery.
Mr. Penn died Monday, October 10, 2011 at a Sulphur Veteran's Center. He was born July 29, 1914 at Gotebo, Oklahoma to Reuben and Minnie Davis Penn. He attended school in Gotebo.
He married Nadine Thiessen on October 3, 1945. They lived on a farm and also in town until they moved to Ada in 1992. Mr. Penn was a wheat farmer until his retirement. While in Gotebo, they attended the First Baptist Church where Murl taught junior boys Sunday School Class for many years. They are now members of the First Baptist Church in Ada and he is an avid OU fan. Mr. Penn served in the U. S. Army during World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Nadine Penn, of the home; a daughter, Merlene Smith and her husband George of Ada; a son, Leslie Penn and his wife Roxan of Ada; three grandchildren, Shelly Thomas, Kelly Kyle and Sari Northcutt; five great grandchildren; one niece and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Pauline Hill, and a granddaughter, Mandi Penn.
Bearers will be Cameron Gillispie, Ryan Kyle, B. K. Penn, Terry D. Teel, Bryan Harwell and Danny Stafford.
