MCALESTER-Services for Warren "Suge" Rutherford, 87, McAlester, formerly of Ada, are 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at the Criswell Funeral Home Chapel, Faith Lindley will officiate. Burial will follow at Oak Wood Cemetery in Wewoka.
Mr. Rutherford died Friday, December 25, 2009 at his home in McAlester. He was born March 5, 1922 at Wewoka, Oklahoma to Grover and Bertha Kelin Rutherford. He attended Spalding schools.
He married Geraldine Tucker March 8, 1947. They renewed their vows January 22, 2006. Mr. Rutherford was a pumper in the Fitts Field for Progress Oil Company, then Ashland Oil Company and later Tex-Fel Oil Company until his retirement. He was affiliated with Restoration Fellowship Church for many years, was an avid gardener, fisherman and hunter. Mr. Rutherford served in the U. S. Army from October 1942 until February 1946 as a Tank Driver during World War II in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre.
Survivors include his wife, Geraldine Rutherford, of the home; three daughters, Janie Melton and husband Roger, McAlester, Donna Johnson, Yukon, and Sheila Latimer and husband Jerry, McAlester; two sons, Stanley Rutherford and wife Barbara, Lawton, and Bob Rutherford and wife Jeannine, Jesse; fourteen grandchildren; several great grandchildren; and a special nurse and friend that he loved dearly, Peggy Neace.
He was preceded in death by three sons, Stephen Rutherford, Mark Rutherford, and Warren Rutherford; one brother, Bud Rutherford; and three sisters, Mamie Chamberlain, Evelyn Evans, and Marguerite Harrell.
Bearers will be Roger Melton, Shawn Melton, Chris Melton, Marty Medley, T. J. McGee, and Clint Griffin.
