William Ray Gaines

William Ray Gaines, 77, of Ada, passed away Wednesday, October 21, 2026, at his home. He was born January 31, 1949, in Lawton, OK, to William and Abbie Postoak Gaines.

He was a Foreman for the Chickasaw Nation until his retirement.

He loved playing softball, spending time hunting and fishing, and cheering on his Sooners. But one of his favorite things was watching his grandchildren play sports. There was nothing quite like being there to watch them play and support them. Those were the moments that meant so much to him.

Whether he was on the softball field, out hunting or fishing, or watching OU football, he was doing the things he loved. Most of all, he treasured his family and the time he got to spend with them.

Survivors include his two sons, William Gaines “Tom” and wife, Barbara, of Ada, and Wendall Gaines, of Allen; daughter, Wilberta Cully and husband, Michael, of Ada; numerous brothers and sisters; eight grandchildren, Thomas Gaines, Tisha Cully, T.J. Gaines, Dalton Gaines, Chris Cully, Stephen Cully, Desiree Gaines, and Abby Gaines; 19 great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Zella Gaines; and daughter-in-law, Kimbrely Gaines.
