BILL POWERS
BYARS-Services for William Shirley "Bill" Powers, 74, Byars are 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ada, Rev. Rusty Hewes will officiate. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. The Marine Honor Guard will conduct military honors at the cemetery. A Rosary will be 7:00 p.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Mr. Powers died Tuesday, May 17, 2011 at a Shawnee nursing home. He was born December 24, 1936 in Stratford, Oklahoma to William Lonzo "Willie" and Edna Mae Wilmot Powers. He attended Whitebead, Pauls Valley and Wynnewood schools.
He married Hattie Phillips Cassavaugh on April 10, 1987 in Gainesville, Texas. Mr. Powers was an Electronic Specialist for A.T. & T. retiring in 1993 after over 33 years of service. He attended St. Joseph Catholic Church and had served in the U. S. Marines from 1955 until 1959.
Survivors include his wife, Hattie Powers, of the home; two daughters, Julie Boyette and husband André, Orange Park, FL, and Jennifer Bales, Yukon; three step-children, David Cassavaugh and wife Karen, Rangely, CO, Sheila Isbell and husband Andy, Shenyang, China, and Felicia Conner and husband Greg, Jacksboro, TX; three grandchildren, Kathy Tyre and husband Sean, Jacksonville, FL, Cheri Holt, Jacksonville, FL, and Andréa Boyette, Orange Park, FL; five step grandchildren, Emily and Braylee Cassavaugh, James and Magdalene Isbell and Parker Conner; five great grandchildren, Bret Boyette, Taylor Tyre, Nathaniel Holt, Hanna Rehall and Jason Shaffer; one brother, Larry Powers and wife Carolyn, Elmore City; three sisters, Louise Dutton and husband Dewayne, Elmore City, Judy Digby and husband Charles, Wynnewood, and Linda Parkey, Maysville; five sisters-in-law, Dorothy Young and husband Joe, Phoenix, AZ, Ruth Mandigo and husband John, Corinth, NY, Jo Roberts and husband Jimmie, Crescent City, CA, Elizabeth Hurley and husband John, Nassau, NY, and Alice Bently and husband Stan, Troy, NY; two brothers-in-law, Donald Phillips and wife Gail, Ft. Edward, NY, and Herbert Phillips, Stillwater, NY; three aunts, Nellie Powers, Pauls Valley, Rosie Wilmot, Choctaw, and Naoma Wilmot, Pauls Valley; one uncle, Clifford Powers, Lawton; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Margaret Gordon; and a brother, Robert Powers.
Bearers will be Guy Gordon, Kevin Gordon, Larry Rhodes, Tony Digby, Clay Digby and Blake Parkey. Honorary bearers will be John Hoover, Wayman Ford, Richard Harris, Harold Kistner, Todd Allen and Pat Stone.
