BILL NUNES, JR.

FITZHUGH-Graveside services for William David "Bill" Nunes, Jr., 79, Fitzhugh, are 11:00 a.m. Monday at East Hill Cemetery in Roff. Rev. Jim Adams will officiate.

Mr. Nunes died Wednesday, July 7, 2010 at a local hospital. He was born December 28, 1930 in Salinas, California to William David and Loretta Mae Duarte Nunes. He grew up on the family farm until the late 1950's and attended schools in Chular and Gonzales, California. He served in the U. S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict until 1953.

He married Frances Elizabeth Pryor on December 8, 1962 and lived in San Jose, California until moving to Fitzhugh in 1990. Mr. Nunes was employed with the State of California's Department of Agriculture as a brand inspector from 1961 until 1981. He completed his time with the State working for the Department of Transportation until his retirement in 1988. He was chosen as "Employee of the Year" for the outstanding dedication to his job.

Survivors include his wife, Frances Elizabeth Nunes, of the home; three daughters, Terry Elliott and husband Zachary, Fremont, California, Janette and Chad Counts, Stonewall, and Cynthia Nunes, Shawnee; a daughter-in-law, Kathy L. Goodell, Redding, California; grandchildren, Lindsey E. Saefong, Leslie A. Goodell, Chase D. Counts, Amber L. and Cody F. Foster, Brandi L. Paretti and Sage S. Counts; great grandson, Ash K. Foster; three sisters, Regina Rodrigues and husband Clarence, Gonzales, California, Bernadette Winters, Elk Grove, California, and Rita Patterson and husband Daniel, Greenfield, California; and a brother, John (Jack) Nunes and wife Patty, Salinas, California.

He was preceded in death by his son, Thomas G. Goodell on October 7, 1996.

Bearers will be Tommy Myers, John Gaylor, Chuck Counts, Chase Counts, Cody Foster, and Burt Dailey.
