WILBURN BENNETT
ADA-Services for Wilburn Eugene Bennett, 87, Ada, are 2:00 p.m. Thursday at the Criswell Funeral Home Chapel, Revs. Charles Murphy and Ryan Humble will officiate. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery in Stonewall.
Mr. Bennett died Monday, October 3, 2011 at a local hospital. He was born March 2, 1924 at Ada, Oklahoma to W. N. "Bill" and Alma Parker Bennett. He attended Owl Creek grade school and graduated from Stonewall High School.
He married Keeble Towanah Sliger on January 23, 1944 in Stonewall. Mr. Bennett had been employed at the Ada Coca-Cola Bottling Company, Humble Oil Company as a pumper and later with Holcim Cement Company as a maintenance employee. He was a member of the First Free Will Baptist Church and had served in the U. S. Navy during World War II. He served on the U.S.S. Moosehead in the Pacific Theatre.
Survivors include his wife Keeble Bennett, of the home; a daughter, Jeanne Phillips and her husband Hubert of Albuquerque, NM; two grandchildren, Kent Phillips and his wife Tracy, and Lori Allen and her husband Buddy; his great grandchildren, Madison and Ryan Phillips and Mikayla Dye; and three sisters, Lorice Johnston and her husband Tanner of Ada, Leona Moshier and her husband Don of The Woodlands, TX, and Oleta Byrd of Luther.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Towanah Elaine Bennett; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Anna and Charlie Sliger; and his parents, Bill and Alma Bennett.
Bearers will be Darrell Johnston, Pete Johnston, Gary Witherspoon, Robert York, James Presley and Mark McCauley. Honorary bearers will be J. B. Sliger, Willard Sliger, Robert Sliger, Royce Sliger, and members of his Sunday school class at the First Free Will Baptist Church.
