WENDELL SAWYER

PONTOTOC-Services for Wendell Lee Sawyer, 82, of Pontotoc, are 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Criswell Funeral Home Chapel, Revs. Raymond Brady and Wayne Edgar will officiate. Burial will follow at Hodges Cemetery in Ada.

Mr. Sawyer died Saturday, April 12, 2014 at a veteran's hospital in Oklahoma City. He was born May 18, 1931 in Ada to Roy Early and Willie Lorene Hodges Sawyer. He attended grade school at Irving and Byng, and later graduated from Ada High School. He also attended East Central University.

He married Luena Underhill on July 14, 1956. Mr. Sawyer worked at Collins Lumber for many years, and later was an independent contractor. He was a member of Sunshine Missionary Baptist Church. He also served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.

Survivors include his wife, Luena Sawyer of the home; three daughters, Rita Dunn of Tishomingo, Sonia Sealock and her husband Mike of Rockwall, TX, and Lora Trimmer of Ada; one son, Daryl Sawyer of Fittstown; ten grandchildren, July Sawyer, Colby Sawyer, Katelyn Connell, Amber Tamez, Ashleigh Dunn, Virginia and Julia Sealock, Mitchell, Jason, and Lauren Trimmer; and five great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Gail Sawyer; and two brothers, Kenneth and J.B. Sawyer.

Bearers will be Mitchell Trimmer, Jason Trimmer, July Sawyer, Sammy Barrett, Virgil Gantt, and Bubba Tamez. Honorary bearers include Pat O'Neal, Benton O'Neal, Bill Johnson, Delbert Tucker, Onus Jordan, Eldon Flinn, and Wiley Underhill.
