JACK BATES
ADA- Services for Warren Jackson "Jack" Bates, 87, Ada, are 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at the Criswell Funeral Home Chapel, George Seaton and Revs. Randy Parker and Kenneth Elkins will officiate. Burial will follow at Rosedale Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Criswell Funeral Home.
Mr. Bates died Sunday, October 12, 2008 at his home. He was born December 4, 1920 at Wellston, Oklahoma to Charles T. and Docia Griffin Bates. He and his family moved to Ada in 1921 from Wellston. He attended Ada schools and graduated from Ada High School. At the age of 16, he attended the University of Oklahoma and received a Bachelor of Science degree as a Geological Engineer. He joined the U. S. Air Force in World War II and was honorably discharged as a First Lieutenant.
He married Helene Haley on February 29, 1948 in Ada, Oklahoma. She died February 18, 2002 in Ada. He later married Pansy M. Cradduck on February 14, 2004. Mr. Bates was a Lease Broker, a longtime member of the First Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon, a member of the Salvation Army Board of Directors, where he received many awards, a member of the Gideons International, where he donated many bibles to various churches around the state, and the Kiwanis Club of Ada. He received many awards with the Kiwanis Club and had perfect attendance for 43 years.
Survivors include his wife, Pansy Bates, of the home; his brother, James Bates and wife Swane, Shawnee Mission, KS; a sister-in-law, LaVerne Bates, Ada; nephews, Dennis Bates, Byron Bates, Jimmie Bates and Richard Bates and wife Posie; nieces, Cindy Steinberg, Donna Forrest, and Pam Nuenke; and many great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, Charles T. Bates and Kenneth Bates.
Bearers will be Charles Mayhue, Duard Thomas, John Martin, Carl Gilley, Doug Smith and Charles Barrick. Honorary bearers will be Guss Gaar, Stu Magaw, and the Men's Fellowship Sunday school Class of the First Baptist Church, and the Kiwanis Club of Ada.
