WALTER GRANT
ADA-Services for Walter James Grant, 88, of Ada, are 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the Philemon Baptist Church, Rev. Ronnie Amos will officiate. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Ada. The Chickasaw Honor Guard will conduct military honors at the cemetery.
Mr. Grant died Saturday, January 12, 2013 at his home. He was born October 27, 1924 in Ada, Oklahoma to John and Ida Daniels Grant. He lived in this area most of his life, attended Napier grade school and graduated from Napier High School.
He married Anna Frazier on January 24, 1981. Mr. Grant was a cook for the Los Angeles, California Unified School District and later with the Los Angeles County Court as a custodian. He was a member of the Greater Union Missionary Baptist Church of Los Angeles and had served in the U. S. Army during World War II. He served in the European Theatre from June 4, 1943 until being honorably discharged November 23, 1945.
Survivors include his wife, Anna Grant, of the home; four daughters, Ruth Ann Calcagno and LaRonda Grant, both of Portland, OR, Tara Grant of Los Angeles, CA, and Rosa Lee Cooper of Oklahoma City; two sons, Walter Grant, Jr., of Ada, and John Grant of McAlester; and a sister, Julia Coleman of Santa Barbara, CA.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother; and two sons.
Bearers will be Billy Blue, Marvin Caruthers, T. C. Hill, Tim Hamilton and Jerome Grant. Honorary bearers will be Glen Pickens, James Frazier, Charles Grant, Wilfred Anderson, Custer McFalls and Charles Parker. Flower bearers will be his nieces.
