VIRGINIA SMITH
ADA-Services for Virginia Nina Indian Ola Akers Smith, 96, Ada, are 2:00 p.m. Monday at the Criswell Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. Dale Howry will officiate. Burial will follow at Rosedale Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Sunday at Criswell Funeral Home.
Mrs. Smith died Friday, September 30, 2011 at a local hospital. She was born March 12, 1915 at Franks, Oklahoma to James Luther and Minnie Colbert Akers. She attended Franks grade school and graduated from Stonewall High School.
She married Kenneth O. Smith on December 21, 1933 in Ada. He preceded her in death in January 15, 1994. Mrs. Smith was a homemaker and had also served as a Pontotoc County Election Board precinct worker. She was a 50 year member and a Past Worthy Matron of the Order of Eastern Star, Chapter #78 in Ada, a Citizen of the Chickasaw Nation and an avid researcher of geneology.
Survivors include a daughter, Laurel Turley and her husband Don L. Turley of Fittstown; two granddaughters, Shannon Kai Turley and her husband, Floyd Neugin of Fittstown and Shawn Lei Rumley and her husband Matt, Tulsa; and three great grandchildren, William Kenneth Hogan, Norman, Virginia Elizabeth Hogan, Fittstown and Alexandra Malei Rumley, Tulsa.
