Services for Vincent Lenn "Duke" Walters, 51, of Ada are 11:00 a.m. Friday at Trinity Baptist Church in Ada, Rev. David Gray will officiate. A Committal service will be 3:00 p.m. Friday at Memory Gardens Cemetery in McAlester. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Criswell Funeral Home, Ada.
Mr. Walters passed away Saturday, May 27, 2017 at an Oklahoma City hospital. He was born January 26, 1966 at McAlester to Dan and Sharon Compelube Walters. He graduated from McAlester High School in 1984 and married Shannon Gragg June 4, 1988 in McAlester.
Vincent spent his first decade out of high school working as a machinist at Coburn Optical in Muskogee and later with National Oilwell in McAlester. He was also an instructor at Kiamichi Technology Center training adult students how to be machinists.
Captain Vincent Walters graduated from the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center Indian Police Academy, Class Number 88 on June 14, 2001. He was hired as a BIA officer and was employed there for two years and in 2004, Officer Walters was an intrical part in building the current Lighthorse Police Department as it is today. Throughout his law enforcement career, Captain Walters obtained numerous achievements to include the following: Council on Law Enforcement Education and Training Basic Instructor, Law Enforcement Driver Training Instructor, Federal Law Enforcement Firearms Training Instructor, SCUBA Diving Instructor, Drug Recognition Expert, and Standard Field Sobriety Test Instructor.
Captain Walters held certifications in GLOCK Armorer, Shotgun Armorer, Aquatic Evidence Recovery, Supervisor's Leadership, Advanced GLOCK Armorer, and Rapid Deployment Search and Rescue. He also was a recipient of the prestigious FBI-LEEDA Leadership Trilogy Award. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Ada.
Survivors include his wife, Shannon Walters, of the home; daughter, Taylor Walters, of the home; son, Evan Walters, of the home; his parents, Sharon and Dan Walters of McAlester; a sister, Dana Watkins and husband John of McAlester; brother, Danny Walters and wife Christi of Mustang; his nieces and nephews, Jennifer Watkins Gandee, Will Watkins and wife Jennifer, Garrett Walters, Wyatt Walters, Jill Patterson, Garrett and Kristen Patterson, Jama Gandee and Kylie and Hunter Patterson.
Bearers will be the Chickasaw Nation Lighthorse Police Honor Guard. Honorary bearers will be his fellow Lighthorse Police Officers and Garrett Patterson, Keith Teel, Gary Perkinson, Tony Crabtree, John Watkins and David Grantham.
