Vernon Langley

Vernon Lee Langley, 86, of Allen, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, September 14, 2026. Born February 9, 1940, in Purcell, Oklahoma, Vernon was one of 14 children born into the farming family of RV and Alice Elizabeth (Alcorn) Langley. He grew up loving the land and learning the value of dedication and hard work, traits that served him well during his career as a successful body and paint technician and long-time owner operator of Langley Body Shop serving Ada and the many surrounding communities. His business in the collision industry gave him, with his contagious smile, the opportunity to make many lifelong friendships over the years. While he was always thankful for the business and the means to provide for his family, his passion was farming and ranching and he spent much of his adult life working the land, raising livestock and being a good steward of that which the Lord provided, all while being a loving husband, a caring father and a very proud Papaw. Life was not always easy, but he never let a challenge slow him down for long.

On May 29, 1959, Vernon married the love of his life, Carol Ardyce Holmes, beginning a journey of 67 years of marriage rooted in faith and family. Together, they built a life in Pontotoc County where Vernon was known for his steady presence, his craftsmanship, and his commitment to his community.

He was a man of God and country and a proud veteran of the Oklahoma National Guard. As a man of strong and abiding faith, Vernon drew strength and purpose from the Scriptures throughout his life, holding closely to the promise of 2 Corinthians 12:9a: "My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness." He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church Allen, where he found great fellowship and brotherhood among his peers while teaching and sharing in the FBC Allen Men's Sunday School Class.

Vernon was preceded in death by his parents, RV and Alice Langley; his brothers, James Langley, David Langley, and Ronald "Butch" Langley; his sisters, Mary Strong and Arvena McCourry; his grandson, David Michael Fisher; and two great-granddaughters, Morgan Frances Batey and Ember Rose Langley.

He leaves behind a legacy through his beloved wife, Carol Langley of the home; his children, Mike Langley and his wife Tracy, Scott Langley and his wife Robin, Kyle Langley and his wife Mary, and Julie Ray and her husband Jeff. Vernon is also survived by his brothers, Tim Langley and John Langley, and his sisters, Lori Ingle, Alice Inman, Margaret Allen, and Anita Morrison.

His legacy extends through his 13 grandchildren: Jill Batey (Ron), Jessica Cooper (Curt), Bridget Haynes (Buck), Shane Langley (Sarah), Kalan Langley (Blanca), Tyler Langley (Kelsey), Joshua Langley (Nadily), Garrett Langley (Katy), Gage Langley (Kaytlyn), Gentry Langley, Jack Langley (Anna), and Sam Langley (Macey), and granddaughter-in-love Stephani Fisher. He is also remembered by his 25 great-grandchildren: Daigan Fisher, Langley Fisher, Taylor Batey, Cameron Batey, AJ Batey, Tucker Batey, Maggie Cooper, Connor Cooper, Addisyn Dalton, Jadyn Dalton, Hunter Langley, Harley Langley, Hayden Langley, Oakley Langley, Roxann Langley, Weston Langley, Kensley Langley, Briar Langley, Lily Langley, Shepherd Langley, JD Langley, Genesis Langley, Jolynn Langley, and Everest Langley.

Funeral services for Vernon will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 18, 2026, at First Baptist Church in Allen, Oklahoma officiated by Garrett Langley. Burial will follow at Allen Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be his grandsons: Shane Langley, Kalan Langley, Joshua Langley, Tyler Langley, Gage Langley, Jack Langley, and Sam Langley. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the FBC Allen Men's Sunday School Class.

Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Thursday evening, September 17, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Services are under the care and direction of Criswell Funeral Home.
