Verna Mae Loman Sweeney, 90, died peacefully Thursday, December 2, 2021, in the loving arms of her oldest granddaughter Toni. A memorial service is planned for 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 15, 2021 at the Criswell Funeral Home Chapel, Chaplain Tim O'Gwynn will officiate.

Verna was born March 30, 1931 in Stonewall, OK to J R and Ruby Loman. She was raised in Byng, OK where she was an outstanding basketball player.  She married the love of her life, John Thomas "Bud" Sweeney on May 10, 1952. Together they raised their 3 sons, Tom, David and Gary, while traveling as a military family to Germany, the Philippines, and various air force stations in the United States.

Verna lived a very well-rounded life in which she excelled in several sports including softball, bowling and golf. She was also an excellent cook, housekeeper and seamstress.

She loved all of her children, grand, great and great great-grandchildren dearly.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Earl "Jerry" Loman; her sister, Elnora Teel; her husband, Bud; and her 3 sons.

She is survived by her sisters, Mary Lou Thompson and Ellen Cantrell; her grandchildren, Toni Davidson, Mike Sweeney, Amy Culbertson, Christina Townsend, Dustin Sweeney, John Parker, Melissa Sweeney, Nathan Sweeney, Nick Sweeney and Paul Sweeney; 18 great-grandchildren; 9 great great-grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends.
