STONEWALL-Services for Velma Josephine "Josie" James, 99, of Stonewall are 10:00 a.m. Monday at the Stonewall First Baptist Church, Rev. Richard Dickerson will officiate. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery near Stonewall.
Mrs. James died Wednesday, June 17, 2015 at an Ada nursing home. She was born September 29, 1915 in Comanche, Oklahoma to Claude Elbert and Lula Hammersley Wood. She graduated from Olney High School.
She married W. L. "Bill" James April 1, 1939. He preceded her in death. Mrs. James was a homemaker and later a health caregiver. She was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Stonewall and a longtime member of the Order of Eastern Star, Stonewall Chapter.
Survivors include three sons, Billy Joe James, Stonewall, Donnie James and wife Shirley, Jesse and Ronnie James and wife Tracy, Owl Creek; six grandchildren, Danny James and wife Cathy, Terry Joe James and wife Reecellee, Tammy Abney and husband Ted, Myndy Walters and husband Mark, Zayne James and wife Jennifer and Tanner James; ten great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and eight siblings, Bessie Bolen, Mildred Gettings, Lee Wood, Roy Wood, L. K. Wood, Jack Wood, Earl Wood and Myrle Wood.
Bearers will be her sons and grandsons.
