GENE HOOD

OIL CENTER-Services for Ulma "Gene" Hood, 74, Oil Center are 10:00 a.m. Saturday at the Criswell Funeral Home Chapel, Revs. Earl Hood and Bennie Boeck will officiate. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Masonic rites will be performed and the U. S. Army Honor Guard will conduct military honors at the cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday at Criswell Funeral Home.

Mr. Hood died Wednesday, August 26, 2009 at his home. He was born December 16, 1934 at Beebe, Oklahoma to Herman Cecil and Omega Denney Hood. He attended Beebe grade school and graduated from Vanoss High School in 1952. He also attended East Central University. After high school, he spent some time logging in Humbolt County, California before being inducted into the military on November 19, 1953. He attended basic training camp at Camp Chafee, Arkanas before continuing on as part of the 11th Airborne stationed at Fort Campbell, Kentucky.

He married Wanda Lois Coley on December 24, 1955. She died May 26, 2007. They were married for 51 years. Mr. Hood was well known in the Ada area having owned and managed lumberyards in both Stonewall and Ada for over 40 years. He was a 32nd degree Mason and previously was involved in the IOOF, Lions Club and various other civic organizations. He was a volunteer firefighter for over 30 years and was a past Mayor of Stonewall, Oklahoma.

Survivors include two sons, Dr. Ronald Gene Hood and wife Donna, Broken Arrow and Robin G. Hood and wife Rebecca, Stratford; two daughters of the home, Rhonda Gale Hood and Reneé Genise Hood; grandchildren, Ryan, Natalie and Nicole Hood and Chad Ridgway and Misty Luper; and five great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, brothers, J. B. and Tab Hood and his sister, Alene Hollaway.

Bearers will be his nephews, Ryan Hood, Richard Hood, Jason Coley, Bill Hood, Donnie Hood, Lee Coley, Rick Wells, Geary Sanders, Dale Sanders and Rev. Earl Hood.
