DR. TIMOTHY GREEN
ADA-Memorial services for Dr. Timothy Mack Green, 74, Ada, are 11:00 a.m. Friday at the Central Church of Christ, Bud Ross will officiate.
Dr. Green died Tuesday, April 12, 2011 at his home. He was born January 17, 1937 in Asher, Oklahoma to Fredrick H. and Vivienne McClure Green. He attended Asher Public School and graduated in 1955. He attended East Central State College his freshman year. He received a baseball scholarship to Oklahoma State University and graduated in 1959 with a major in Business Administration. While at OSU, he played on the OSU Cowboys Baseball Team that won the National Collegiate Championship in 1959. Later, he and his teammates were inducted into the OSU Cowboy Hall of Honor. In 1968, he graduated from Henderson State College in Arkadelphia, AR with a Bachelor's and Master's Degree in Education. In 1970, he completed his EdD in Education from the University of Oklahoma.
He married Paula K. Rose on January 24, 1959 in Ponca City, Oklahoma. Dr. Green taught at Memphis State University before coming to East Central University where he was a reading specialist teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in teaching reading. While at East Central University, he served on many committees, and was the editor for 25 years of the "Oklahoma Reader", a state publication for reading teachers. He was appointed the Director of Athletics at East Central University and served in this capacity for 25 years, retiring in December 2006. In 2006, the ECU golf classic that is held every springs was named the "Tim Green All-Sports Golf Classic" in honor of Dr. Green. He was inducted into the East Central University Athletic Hall of Fame in 2009.
Dr. Green served on the Board of Directors at Valley View Regional Hospital for 20 years and served his term as Director of the Board. Dr. Green taught an adult Bible class at Central Church of Christ for 25 years where he and his family attended church. After he became ill, he spent many hours each day studying the Bible and sharing scriptures with friends and relatives. He was an avid runner for 48 years and ran 5 miles every day.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Paula K. Green, of the home; a daughter, Kelly Maloy and her husband Jeff of Ada; his grandchildren, Patrick Maloy, Molly Maloy, Christian Maloy and Matthew Maloy, all of Ada; a brother, Freddie Green of Russellville, AR; a nephew, Fred Green of Benton, AR; many close cousins, church friends and colleagues.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; and other "special" aunt and uncles and a sister-in-law.
Honorary bearers will be John Wayne Hoggatt, Dr. Jerry Morgan, Wayne Cobb, Dr. Jack Paschall, Andy Anderson, Cecil Perkins, Morris McGehee, Harrell Harbin, Jackie Matthews, Len Cooper, Bill Adams, Dan Northcutt, Jim Dicus, Dr. Norman Frame, and Hank Walbrick.
