THURMAN WRIGHT
ROFF-Services for Thurman Hartzell Wright, 89, Roff, are 10:00 a.m. Saturday at the Criswell Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. Tony Folger will officiate. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mr. Wright died Wednesday, February 18, 2009 at an Ardmore Veterans Center. He was born April 13, 1919 in the Oakman community, east of Ada, Oklahoma to C. E. and Mollie Johnson Wright. He attended Oakman school and graduated from Byng High School in 1938. He also attended East Central University from 1946 until 1948.
He married Melvina Horton on February 19, 1958. Mr. Wright and others formed the Oklahoma-Texas Oil Corporation in Ada. He was employed as a pipe fitter for Brown and Root Construction Company until his retirement in 1988, later he was employed with O.G. & E. and was the owner and operator of a convenience store in Roff for many years. He served in the U. S. Army Air Corps during World War II from 1941 until 1945.
Survivors include his wife, Melvina Wright, of the home; one daughter, J'Neena Swinney and husband Russell, Plano, Texas; one son, Rod Horton and wife Barbara, Roff; four grandchildren, Garrett Swinney, Jessica Swinney, Rod Horton Jr., and Shawna Chaplin; three great grandchildren, Ashley Horton, Alyssa Horton, and Kylie Chaplin; one sister-in-law, Eula Wright, Ada; and several nieces and nephews.
Bearers will be Melvin Johnson, Bob Byrd, Bill Williams, Charles Morrow, Cliff Bass, and Billy Box. Honorary bearer will be Amos Summers.
