THELMA "JEAN" SOWARDS
ADA-Services for Thelma Emogene "Jean" Sowards, 91, of Ada, are 1:00 p.m. Thursday at Trinity Baptist Church, Dr. Rusty Fuller and Rev. David Gray will officiate. Interment will follow at Allen Cemetery.
Mrs. Sowards died Monday, December 16, 2013 at a local nursing home. She was born June 30, 1922 near Allen at Red Oak, Oklahoma to Wade H. Phillips and Maud E. Harrison Phillips. She attended grade school at Red Oak and high school at Francis.
She married C.B. Sowards on December 25, 1940 at Steedman, Oklahoma, and he preceded her in death. She joined Trinity Baptist Church in October 1955. She taught Sunday School for forty years. She served on many committees such as finance, personal, and nomination.
She worked as a sales person at Gluckmans for several years and S&Q Clothing. She also worked at Southwestern Bell Phone Company.
Survivors include one daughter, Carolyn Boyles and husband Johnny of Allen, OK, one son, Phillip Sowards and wife Thelma of Tulsa, OK, one granddaughter, Michelle Sowards of Dallas, TX, two great grandsons, Nicholas Boyles of Allen, OK and Jaxson Shepherd of Dallas, TX, one niece, Gwenda Ausmus of Duncan, OK, and a special friend, Bill Turner of Ada, OK as well as many other friends and relatives.
Mrs. Sowards was preceded in death by her husband C.B. Sowards, granddaughter Andrea Sowards as well as her parents and five brothers, Henry, Donald, Pete, Joe, and Herman.
Pallbearers will be Pete Presley, Don Sayre, Ken Roberts, Edward Alred, Jim Christenberry, and David Parker.
