TED SMITH
ADA-Services for Roy K. "Ted" Smith, 83, Ada, are 10:00 a.m. Friday at the Criswell Funeral Home Chapel, Bud Ross will officiate. Burial will follow at Rosedale Cemetery.
The Chickasaw Honor Guard will conduct military honors at the cemetery.
Mr. Smith died Monday, March 1, 2010 at his home. He was born May 29, 1926 at Fitzhugh, Oklahoma to Hiram Edmond and Anna Bell Saunders Smith. He graduated from Ada High School, served in the U. S. Navy during World War II, then studied at East Central University where he received a lifetime teaching certificate.
He married Billie Jean Austin in September 6, 1947 at Clovis, New Mexico. She preceded him in death on December 18, 2003. He taught at El Reno High School, then returned to Ada to work in the family business, Smith's Country Store. He later owned and operated a service station in Ada, and also did boat engine repair until his retirement.
Survivors include two sons, Mack A. Smith and wife Joyce, Stonewall, and Jeffrey K. Smith and wife Jill, Warrensburg, MO; two granddaughters, Amy Smith, Oklahoma City, and Jaclyn Smith, Lynexa, KS; two sisters, Jeanette Mitchell, El Reno, OK and Cherrye Lucas, Annapolis, MD; and other extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
Bearers will be Stan Compton, Phil Lansford, Phil Lawrence, Bill Bailey, Jim Platt, and Clay Hamilton.
