SYBIL BAKER
ADA-Graveside services for Sybil Adele Baker, 87, Ada, formerly of Tom, Oklahoma are 10:00 a.m. Monday at the Tom Cemetery, Danny Stewart and Aubrey Thompson will officiate.
Mrs. Baker died Friday, June 24, 2011 at a local nursing home. She was born October 8, 1923 in Tom, Oklahoma to William Morris and Katie B. Murray Pierce. She graduated from Tom High School in 1941.
She married James Earl Baker on June 24, 1946 in Oklahoma City. He preceded her in death on August 17, 2005. She and her husband farmed, she was also a nutrition aide for the OSU Extension Service in Idabel, and later, the manager of the Tom Sr. Citizen Center. She was a member of the Tom Church of Christ and later a member of the Fittstown Church of Christ. She taught Sunday school for many years. Mrs. Baker was the secretary for the McCurtain County Cattleman's Association, the secretary for the Southeast McCurtain County Chamber of Commerce, secretary for the Tom Sr. Citizens Center, the Tom Volunteer Fire Department, a volunteer 4-H and FHA Club Mother, a member of the Home Demonstration Club, and the Valley View Regional Hospital Auxiliary. She was also a gardener.
Survivors include six daughters, Marcia Smith and husband Paxson, Oklahoma City, Susan Stephens and husband Bob, Stafford, VA, Patti Pyle and husband Greg, Durant, Joan Robinson and husband Mark, Colorado Springs, CO, Virginia (Gini) Lewis and husband Ken, Ada, and Sarah Hicks and husband Jeff, Edmond; one sister, Maxine Byrd and husband Bobby, Broken Bow; 12 grandchildren, James William Smith, Holly Creek, Jonathan Smith, Yukon, Robby Stephens, Allendale, VA, Jessica Torres, Stafford, VA, Eric Pyle, Calera, Andrea Pavlovsky, Burleson, TX, Curtis Robinson, Virginia Beach, VA, Gregory and Holly Robinson, Colorado Springs, CO, Halley Lewis, Edmond, Logan Lewis, Ada, and Robyn Hicks, Edmond; 21 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews, including nephew, John Grant and wife Nelda, Tom.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and a grandson, Michael Porter.
Bearers will be her grandsons.
