STAN STEVENSON
SULPHUR-Services for Stanley Edward "Butch" Stevenson, 58, Sulphur, are 10:00 a.m. Friday at the Konawa School Auditorium, Rev. Tim Bowen, Willie Cloud and Charlotte Creecy will officiate. Burial will follow at Rosedale Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Criswell Funeral Home.
Mr. Stevenson died Saturday, December 10, 2011 at an Oklahoma City hospital. He was born August 7, 1953 in Sublette, Kansas to Edd Stevenson, Jr. and Billie Jean Brown Stevenson. He was raised most of his life in Konawa. He graduated from Konawa High School in 1971. In 1976, he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Music and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Drama from East Central University.
He married Janet Braden on November 26, 1974. Mr. Stevenson was a band director. He taught in Oilton, Stroud, Madill, Idabel, Sulphur, Konawa, Ardmore, and Pauls Valley. He was named "Teacher of the Year" in Ardmore and Pauls Valley. Mr. Stevenson was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Pauls Valley.
Survivors include his wife, Janet Stevenson, of the home; a son, Jesse Stevenson; two granddaughters, Lexie and Lindsey; two sisters, Bettye Cooper of Eufaula and Mary Hinkle of Ada; and a large extended family and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edd and Billie Jean; and a daughter, Katie Jean Stevenson.
Bearers will be Richard Stevenson, Bart Stevenson, Don Franks, Blade Bigler, Penny Norris and Drew Etheridge. Honorary bearers will be Tony Braden, Charles Carpenter, Todd Carpenter, Max Chronister, Sam Whisenhunt, Stephen Cooper, Aaron Cooper, Willie Cloud and Clay Howry.
The family says those who wish may make memorials to the Stan Stevenson Music Education Scholarship, c/o ECU Foundation, Inc., East Central University, P. O. Box Y-8, Ada, OK 74821; or the Lexie and Lindsey Manuel Scholarship Fund, c/o Cathy Alexander, American National Bank, 1901 N. Commerce Street, Ardmore, OK 73401.
