Services for Sherry Lea Mitchell, 65 of Stillwater, formerly of Ada are 1:00 p.m. Thursday at the Criswell Funeral Home Chapel in Ada. Rev. David L. Daniel will officiate. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Ada.
Sherry Lea Mitchell passed from this life Sunday August 9, 2015 to be with her Heavenly Father.
Sherry was born December 14, 1950, in Valley View Hospital, Ada, Oklahoma, to John Hilton Welch I, and Mary Lou Welch. She was preceded in death by both parents and an infant sister, Janet Welch.
Sherry is survived by a son John Hilton Welch II, daughter-in-law Elizabeth Welch, granddaughters Stormy and Kadie Welch; two sisters Kay Watson and Elisa Cossey; niece Tamara and husband Paul Berry, nephew Keith and wife Barbara Watson, niece Renee' and husband Ron Forsgren, niece Carissa and husband Shawn Mantooth and niece Lori and husband Joe Young. She is also survived by nine great nieces, one great nephew and two great great nieces and one great great nephew, and many cousins and friends.
Sherry grew up in Stratford, Oklahoma, attending kindergarten through her senior year and graduating Valedictorian of her class. She attended Oklahoma University and graduated from the OU School of Electrical Engineering.
She began her career as a Civil Service employee at Tinker AFB Systems working as an Engineer on the KC135 program. Later moving to the Army Ammunition Plant in McAlester Oklahoma managing an Engineering Group supporting the Navy's Nuclear Weapon Program, and then on to Crystal City MD working on the Tomahawk Cruise Missile Program. Finally retiring out of NAS Patuxent River MD in 2007, working as an Assistant to the Admiral in charge of Naval Air Systems Command.
Sherry loved her family and her country and will be missed greatly.
Sherry was a patriot and worked for the U. S. Government for many years as a Civil Engineer. Those who wish may make memorials in Sherry's honor to any of the following: any branch of the U. S. Military; the Veterans of Foreign Wars; or any patriot service organization.
