Shandy Wegrzyn-Smith

Memorial services for Shandy Wegrzyn-Smith will be held at 2:00 p.m. on May 28, 2026, at H2O Church in Ada, Oklahoma. Mike Williams will officiate.

Shandy Wegrzyn-Smith, 51, went to be with Jesus on May 25, 2026, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

She was born on December 6, 1974, in Ada, Oklahoma. She was the beloved daughter of Mike and Georgie Wegrzyn. Shandy attended Latta Schools and later continued her education at both East Central University and Oklahoma State University.

Shandy dedicated her life to serving others through law enforcement, a path that reflected her strength, compassion, and unwavering commitment to her community. She began her career in 2008 as a jailer for the Pontotoc County Sheriff’s Office, where she quickly became known for her fairness, resilience, and genuine care for those in her charge. She later served with the Stonewall Police Department, building meaningful relationships and earning the respect of both coworkers and citizens alike.

In 2009, Shandy found her true calling when she became a deputy with the Pontotoc County Sheriff’s Office. In that role, she combined her natural ability to connect with people with her dedication to protecting and serving Pontotoc County for more than a decade. She took tremendous pride in her work and in the difference, she made in the lives of others, leaving a lasting impact on her fellow officers and the community she loved.

In 2019, she joined the Lighthorse Police Department, where she served as both a patrol officer and later as a detective. Shandy fit naturally into the world of law enforcement. She could hold her own in the toughest situations, was quick thinking, incredibly witty, and never backed down when someone needed help. Her fellow officers and partners became family to her, and she loved every one of them deeply.

Outside of her career, Shandy loved making memories with her friends and family. She enjoyed traveling, going to concerts, and spending sunny days at the lake. She had a way of making people feel welcome, loved and valued wherever she was.

Above all else, Shandy’s greatest joy in life was her family. She loved fiercely and wholeheartedly, especially in her roles as a mom, daughter, sister, and “Nay Nay.”

Her grandchildren were the light of her life, and she treasured every moment spent with them.

She is survived by her children, Dylan Duke and wife Amy, Skylar Paige Duke, and husband Cotey Horton, and Bret Bynum; six beloved grandchildren, Brylynn, Dakota, Riley, Kyren, Wrynli, and Brinli; her mother, Georgie Wegrzyn; her sisters, Randi Pope and husband Justin, Kimberly Riley and husband Brent, and Kayla James and husband Robert; her best friends, Amie Ellis and Jake Foran; along with countless brothers and sisters in law enforcement who loved and respected her.

She was preceded in death by her son, Chance Duke; her father, Mike Wegrzyn; and her grandparents, George W. and Thaddeus Smith, and Emil and Joy Wegrzyn.

Shandy will be remembered for her strength, her humor, her fierce loyalty, and the love she gave so freely to those around her. Whether she was serving her community, standing beside a friend, or loving her family, she did everything with courage and heart. She leaves behind a legacy of service, faith, laughter, and unconditional love that will never be forgotten.

Pallbearers will be the Chickasaw Nation Lighthorse Police Honor Guard.

Honorary pallbearers are Jake Foran, John Christian, Casey Gentry, T.J. Heath, R.W. Vietzke, and Travis Wilson.
