SANDRA BARNES

ADA-Graveside services for Sandra Dene Wilkins Barnes, 64, Ada, are 2:00 p.m. Friday, at Rosedale Cemetery. Rev. Bill Sluder will officiate. Family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Criswell Funeral Home.

Mrs. Barnes died Monday, November 9, 2009 at a local hospital. She was born July 2, 1945 at Hayward, California to Leonard Leon and Francis Kirby Wilkins. She lived in the Tupelo area most of her life, attended elementary school at Clarita and graduated from Tupelo High School.

She married Sonny Barnes on January 15, 1972 at Stonewall. Mrs. Barnes worked for East Central University in the Student Union, retiring in 2004 after 26 years of service. She was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include her husband, Sonny Barnes, of the home; one sister, Shirleen Harkins, Universal City, Texas; two half-brothers, Leonard Wilkins and Earl Thomas Wilkins; several nieces, nephews and many cousins.

She was preceded in death by a twin brother, Edward Eugene (Buddy) Wilkins, a brother, Jerry Glenn Wilkins, and one sister, Melba Jean Canida.

Bearers will be Ernest McDonald, Glenn McDonald, Bill Gurley, Dale Snow, Ron McDaniel, and Lewis Dunlap. Honorary bearers will be Charley Gollihare and Homer Ray Roberts.
