ADA-Services for Sammie Earl Mason, 62, of Ada, are 10:00 a.m. Monday at the Criswell Funeral Home Chapel, David Dirrim will officiate. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery in Stonewall. The Chickasaw Honor Guard will conduct military honors at the cemetery.
Mr. Mason died Wednesday, November 21, 2012 at a Sulphur VA center. He was born May 15, 1950 in Ada, Oklahoma to William Carlos and Pearl Beatrice Knight Mason. He graduated from Stonewall High School.
Mr. Mason was a retired truck driver and had served in the U. S. Army during the Vietnam Era. He served with the Army 815 Engineer Battalion from May 9, 1969 until being honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant on March 5, 1979. He was trained as a Cartographer-Draftsman and operated heavy construction equipment building roads in the military. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry w/Palm, the Good Conduct Medal; and the Expert Qualification Badge for the M-16. Mr. Mason was a longtime member of Southwest Church of Christ and a dedicated worker.
Survivors include his son Bryan Gail Mason of Michigan; granddaughter, Abbey Gail Mason of Michigan; his ex-wife, Kathaleen Mason, Cheboygan, Michigan; and other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by a son, William Samuel Mason; his parents; brothers, Lee Roy Mason and Billy Joe Mason; and a sister, Vickie Lynn Mason.
Bearers will be Weldon Cravey, Butch Platt, Bill Young, Jerry Miller, Eugene Cannon and Glendel Hatton. Honorary bearers will be Stan Lillard, Ralph Ingram, Vernon Morgan, Elmer Gerth, Leo Sims, Daryl Pultz, Coleman Pennington, Tony Pippen, Bill Hart and Alvin Jamar.
