Memorial services for Ruthie Mae Gray, age 75, of Ada, OK are 11:00 AM Saturday, January 27, 2024 at Reaper Baptist Church, Rev. Ricky McGee will officiate. Ruthie was called home to glory on Saturday, January 13, 2024, in Ardmore, OK at her son-in-law and daughter's home.
On February 28, 1948, Ruthie was the first born of 7 children. She was born and raised in Savannah, GA to Benny and Katherine Quarterman where she graduated from high school in Liberty County. Ruthie's father passed away in a car accident when she was very young and lived most of her teenage life with her grandmother. In 1967, Ruthie and her son moved to Ada, OK after the passing of her mother and lived with her aunt and uncle Carrie and Samuel Anderson.
After being in Ada for several months, Ruthie joined and became a member of Reaper Baptist Church. She sang in the church for many years until her illness. She was well known with the church member, friends and family for her cooking. Ruthie was very famous for her collard greens, pound cakes, banana pudding, Mississippi Mud cake, and her Italian cream cake.
In 1995, Ruthie met Harvey Gray through her beloved friends from church William and Barbara Gray and became husband and wife on March 2, 1996. Harvey was a devoted and loving husband, dad, grandfather, brother in-law, and uncle to Ruthie's family until God called him home in 2018.
Over the years in her life, Ruthie worked for the Ada Schools in the cafeteria for several years and retired from Solo Cup (1980-2008). A week after retiring from Solo Cup, Ruthie met and was asked to care for a loving couple in Oil Center whom she was very fond of, Colleen and BJ Robertson. Ruthie worked for the Robertson's for 11 years until the Lord called them home. For a short period of time, Ruthie cared for the Colleen's sister Alene Tucker.
Ruthie was preceded in death by her parents Benny and Katherine, her grandmother (Josephine), her aunts Carrie, Mary, and Willie (Bill), her uncle Sam, and her beloved husband Harvey.
Her beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of her three children, Robert (Traci) Quarterman of Ada, OK, Sharon (Ricky) McGee of Ardmore, OK, and Tonya Quarterman, Mid-West City, OK. Seven grandkids, Courtnie (Benny Ruiz) Booker, Christopher Quarterman, Jarrel (Krysten) Booker, Robert (Yahonna) Quarterman, Jr., Delandre (Zoe) Quarterman, Carrissa Quarterman, and Elijah Grayson. Six siblings, Samuel Quarterman, Long Island, NY, Rudolph Jacobs (Barbara), Ben Wheeler, TX, Nathaniel Jacobs, San Antonio, TX, Donald Jacobs, Ada, OK, and John Jacobs and special friend Carolyn, of Athens, TX, and Eva Mae Bailey (Willie), of Tyler, TX; 5 great-grandkids; nieces, nephews, and two very special sister/cousin Jannice Williams and Rosette Coleman.
