RUTH A. SMITH
ADA-Services for Ruth A. Smith, 88, of Ada, are 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 26, 2012 at the Criswell Funeral Home Chapel, Revs. John Haynes and Harold Ware will officiate. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mrs. Smith died Saturday, June 23, 2012 at a Norman nursing home. She was born June 27, 1923 in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma to David Melton Carver and (Dossie) Mary Hudman Carver. She graduated in 1941 from Rosedale High School in Rosedale, Oklahoma. She moved to Ada in 1941 and worked in the retail business for 52 years. She worked in management at McLellan's for 20 years, 14 years at T G & Y, 14 years at Family Dollar and 4 years at Avannel's Dress Shop. She was a member of the First Baptist Church since 1951.
She married Eugene D. "Gene" Smith on December 18, 1948 in Ada. He preceded her in death on June 29, 2010.
Survivors include a daughter, Phyllis Blackwell and her husband Bob of Norman; one brother, John Carver and wife Marybelle of Oklahoma City; one sister-in-law, Lee Carver of Corning, CA; her grandchildren, Robert Blackwell and wife Kathy of Moore, Kathy Cross and husband Craig of Tulsa, Jennifer Smith and partner, Becca Maddox of Tulsa, Leean Leu and husband Trevor of Tulsa, and Raegan Smith, Oklahoma City; her great grandchildren, Leigha Kelsey of Oklahoma City, Ryan and Corey Blackwell of Moore, Cayman Cross of Tulsa, Barrick, Rhett and Henley Leu of Tulsa; one great great grandson, Kyler Kelsey of Oklahoma City; and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Dr. Dewayne Smith; sisters, Irene Richardson, Tressie Anderson and Bessie Kuykendall; and brothers, Dee Carver and Finis Carver.
