ROY HANSON
TULSA-Services for Roy Lee Hanson, 85, of Tulsa are 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the Boston Avenue United Methodist Church, 1301 S. Boston Avenue. Dr. William E. Tankersley III will officiate. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday at Rosedale Cemetery, 2020 N. Oak Avenue, Ada, OK.
Mr. Hanson died Monday, October 22, 2012 at his home. He was born July 20, 1927 in Springdale, Arkansas to Julius Marion and Myrtle Aaron Hanson. His father moved the family to Seminole, Oklahoma in 1932 and then to Ada in 1939. Roy graduated from Ada High School where he played tennis and baseball. He continued to play fast pitch softball and tennis competitively for many years. Near the end of World War II, Roy joined the U. S. Navy and served his country for 15 months. He then attended East Central State College in Ada for four years, where he met and married Zela Mae Derrick in 1950. He received a degree from Southern Methodist University Graduate School of Banking in 1967.
In 1954, Roy began his banking career as a teller at the First National Bank and Trust, Ada and worked there until August 1983, when he joined Prague National Bank and served as president, CEO and chairman of the board. Roy retired in 2000 when Prague National Bank merged into the First National Bank and Trust, Ada and for the remainder of his life, continued to serve on the board of directors of the bank that is now named Vision Bank, N.A.
All his life, Roy was active in church and civic affairs. He served as president of the Ada Chamber of Commerce, Ada Lions Club and Prague Chamber of Commerce. Roy served three terms as chairman of Ada Campfire Council, several terms on the board of directors of the Ada Arts and Humanities Council, and was a member of the Ada Tennis club, and a charter member of the Main Street Prague Program. Roy played tennis three times a week for many years with his friends who referred to themselves as "The Rafters". He also played golf and followed the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team.
He was a founding member of the board of directors of The Bankers Bank in 1985, and received a 50 year member award from the Oklahoma Bankers Association in 2008. Roy was an active choir member and Sunday school teacher at the First United Methodist Church in Ada for many years, and also served as chairman of the Staff Parish Relations Committee; and more recently held a position on the administrative board at the Boston Avenue United Methodist Church in Tulsa, where he also sang in the choir.
Survivors include his wife, Zeke Hanson, of the home; four daughters, Linda Roberts of Oklahoma City, Teri Bultemeier and her husband Steve of Castle Rock, CO, Jill Jarman and her husband Randy of Owasso, and Jennifer Costa of Tulsa; a sister, Betty Stevens of Fort Worth, TX; brother, George Hanson and his wife Judy of Ada; 12 grandchildren, Zachary and Denise Roberts, Derrick Roberts, Wes and Michelle Roberts, Keith and Abby Bultemeier, Kyle and Kim Jarman, Blake Jarman, Kenzie Jarman, Michael Costa, Josh Costa, Mandy Costa, Becca Costa, and Nate Costa; four great grandchildren, Evyn, Kylie and Weston Roberts, and Wyatt Jarman; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Paul and Bill Hanson.
