ROSE MARIE ELKINS

ADA-A funeral Mass for Rose Marie (Spink) Elkins, 77, Ada, is scheduled Saturday November 3 at 10:00 am at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Reverend Russell Hewes will officiate. Burial will follow at Centrahoma Cemetery.

Mrs. Elkins died Tuesday, October 30, 2007 at a local nursing home, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born April 3, 1930 in Elizabethtown, Kentucky to Claude T. and Rachel (Beeler) Spink. She attended Catholic School in Elizabethtown and graduated from Elizabethtown High School.

She married Bill Elkins March, 1952. They moved to the Ada area in 1958 from Denver, Colorado. As a young woman Mrs. Elkins was a telephone operator for Bell Telephone but the greater part of her life was spent as a mother and homemaker. She was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church.

A faithful Catholic, Rose Marie taught her six children by example the ways of a loving and kind God. Her children were a source of great pride to her, and no one ever met our Mom without hearing, "…did you ever see more beautiful children…". She was an avid reader sometimes reading an entire book a day. She was a thoughtful and intelligent woman who knew much, but was quiet and shy. The Elkins household was always cluttered with the remnants of her reading, her art, and her yard was a kaleidoscope of her mastery with growing things. The world was truly a better place for Rose Marie having been here. To honor her life we know she would be pleased to know a flower was planted in her memory. We, her children, will see her in every "Rose" for the rest of our lives.

Survivors include her husband, Bill Elkins, of the home; three daughters, Brenda Jennings, Tecumseh, Paula Wilhelm (Mark) of Ft. Worth, Texas; Karen Carpenter, of Kingston; three sons, David Elkins (Toni) of Ada; Richard Elkins (Gaila), Dougherty; and William "Chipper" Elkins (Jane), of Fittstown; two sisters, Betty Spink, Ft. Worth, Texas, and Alice Richards, O Fallon, Illinois; two brothers, Bob Spink (Carolyn), and Richard Spink (Sue), all of Elizabethtown, Kentucky; ten grandchildren; eight great grandchildren, seventeen nieces and nephews.
