Ron Thompson

No services are planned at this time for Ronald Averett Thompson, 83, of Ada.

Mr. Thompson passed away Wednesday, February 1, 2017 at an Ada hospital. He was born July 25, 1933 in Ada to Bona Leon and Junessie Wells Thompson. He attended Ada schools and graduated from Ada High School in 1951. While at Ada High, he was active in the football program and was named to the Oklahoma All State Football Team of 1950. His was the first football scholarship offered to an Ada High athlete during the Bud Wilkinson reign.

Ron graduated from The University of Oklahoma in 1956 and was commissioned a 2 ^nd Lieutenant in the U. S. Army. After serving, he remained in the Army Reserve and became an Ada main street merchant, managing "Lucy's" Ladies Clothing Store which was owned by his aunt, Lucy Rollow.

Ron returned to active duty in 1969 as a Major and retired as a Full Colonel after 20 years of service.

Survivors include a brother, Jerry Thompson and his wife Sue of Ada; two nephews, Ronald Tee Thompson and Jerry TadThompson, both of Tempe, AZ; and a life-long friend, Henry Katz of Ada.
