RONALD HOLMES
PONTOTOC-Services for Ronald Edwin Holmes, 71, of Pontotoc are 12:00 Noon Thursday at the Criswell Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. Bob Langston will officiate. Burial will follow at Pontotoc Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Criswell Funeral Home.
Mr. Holmes died Sunday, October 7, 2012 at an Ada hospital. He was born December 17, 1940 in Chickasha, Oklahoma to Joseph Wesley and Lois Watson Holmes. He graduated from Ada High School, received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Oklahoma and a PhD. in Mechanical Engineering from Rice University. He grew up in this area and moved to Texas for 25 years.
He married Sarah Auman on March 16, 1996 in College Station, Texas. Mr. Holmes was a Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Texas A & M University, retiring in 1995. He owned and operated Holmes Ranch in Pontotoc raising cattle until his death.
Survivors include his wife Sarah Holmes, of the home; his mother, Lois Duncan, Ennis, TX; his children, Ronald Edwin Holmes, Jr. and his wife Shannon, Chatham, New Jersey, Suezann Davies and her husband Simon, London, England, Kenneth Holmes and his wife Zhanna, Seguin, TX, Evonne Hess and her husband Gregg, Muenster, TX; his stepchildren, Kelly Lowther and her husband Peter, Ft. Collins, CO, and Laura Knudson and her husband Brian, North Las Vegas, NV; and 12 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, Joe Holmes; his first wife, Laura Taylor Holmes; and his grandson, Hayden Anthony Holmes.
Bearers will be Ed Holmes, Ken Holmes, Gregg Hess, Peter Lowther, Kenny Holmes, John Blassingame, David Blassingame and Brian Knudson.
