Obituary

Robert Donnell Woolley, Sr., a man of Chickasaw heritage, unwavering dedication, and love, passed away peacefully at his home on October 5, 2023, at the age of 92. He was born in Stonewall, OK on January 18, 1931, to William Walter Woolley and Lillian Burris Woolley. Robert was the grandson of Chickasaw Supreme Court Justice, District Judge, and esteemed legislator, Colbert Ashalatubbi Burris.

A celebration of Robert's life will be held on Tuesday, October 10 at 10:00 a.m. at Criswell Funeral Home followed by a graveside service at Highland Cemetery.

Robert's life was woven with the threads of family, community service, and ranching.Throughout his life, Robert was a loving and devoted brother, husband, father, and friend. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Patricia Harrell, and his second wife, Gwen Carol Schaffer.

Robert was also preceded in death by his brother, Walt Woolley, Jr., and his sisters, Cecilia Goodwin and Caroline Christenberry. Left to cherish his memory are his children: Robert Woolley, Jr., Jeanne Meiwes, Patrice Woolley, Roger Woolley, and his wife Krista Woolley and his stepdaughter Rhonda Sebring, and her husband Troy. Robert is also survived his 10 grandchildren: John Todd, Jr., Jason Todd, Graham Woolley, Evan Woolley, Rachel Woolley, Annie Crutchfield, April Dull, Corbin Dull, Fred Oliphant and Alissa Johnson. In addition, he is survived by 18 great grandchildren, a great-great grandchild and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Robert attended school in Stonewall and at the Todd School for Boys. He was a proud graduate of Oklahoma State University.

Robert served as First lieutenant in the Army during the Korean Conflict from 1954 to 1956. He also served with distinction in the Shriners organization, Oklahoma Cattlemen's Association, on the Pontotoc County Excise Board, and in the Chickasaw Legislature.

He spent the last several years of his life in the loving care of his children and his beloved caretakers Susan Kay and Patty Perkins. As a rancher Robert's connection to the land ran deep so he enjoyed his long daily drives with his family and caretakers checking on the family land throughout Stonewall.

Robert Donnell Woolley leaves behind a legacy that will continue to inspire and uplift those who knew him. His memory will be enshrined in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to share in his life's journey. May he find peace in the arms of his ancestors, and may his memory be a source of comfort and inspiration to us all.
