DR. ROBERT READ
ADA, OKLAHOMA-Services for Dr. Robert F. Read, 73, Ada, OK are 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the Criswell Funeral Home Chapel in Ada. Entombment will be at the Swan Hill Mausoleum in Ada. The Chickasaw Honor Guard will conduct military honors at the cemetery.
Dr. Read died Thursday, March 3, 2011 at his home. He was born November 3, 1937 at Dupont, Indiana to Willard and Myrtle Young Read. He attended school in Dupont, Indiana and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from Morehead State College in Kentucky in 1959. He later received a MD degree in 1963 from the University of Louisville. Dr. Read did his internship from 1963 until 1964 at Tampa General Hospital and residency in Diagnostic Radiology from 1969 until 1972.
Dr. Read was the Chief of Radiology at Carl Albert Indian Hospital in Ada from January, 1981 until December 31, 1993. He retired January 1, 1994 from the United States Public Health Service as a Commissioned Officer after 29 ½ years of service.
Since retirement, Dr. Read enjoyed spending his time tending to his pets, gardening, remodeling, fishing and hunting.
He loved his time spent with family and friends. He was a care-giver, a guiding father and a loving grandfather. Most of all he was the "Greatest Poppie in the World".
Survivors include his wife, Delores, of the home; his children, Eddie Little and his wife Patricia, Ada, Byron Dixon, Ada, Craig Dixon, Ada, Donna Hendrix, Ada, and Lisa DiGann and her husband John, Plano, TX; 9 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; and two sisters, Onalee Armand and her husband George, Westport, IN and Lenora Russell, Dupont, IN.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Kate LaFever and a brother, Guy Read.
Bearers will be grandsons, Chase Dixon, Brandon Dixon, Stephen Dixon, Michael Hall, Beau Hendrix and Cruise McCurley. Honorary bearers will be Shannon Rey, Keisha Tipton, Aunja DiGann, Alaina DiGann, Bill LaFever, Craig Dixon and Byron Dixon.
