ALLEN-Services for Robert Elmo Cross, 80, Allen are 2:00 p.m. Friday at the Richmond Avenue Free Will Baptist Church, Rev. Buddy Drake will officiate. Burial will follow at Black Rock Cemetery. The Chickasaw Honor Guard will conduct military honors at the cemetery. Family and friends may call at the Allen Chapel from 4:00 p.m. Thursday until service time.
Mr. Cross died Monday, September 19, 2011 at his home. He was born August 10, 1931 in Allen, Oklahoma to Holder and Inez Thomas Cross. He lived in the Citra area as a child and attended Citra schools.
He married Mary Lou Walston in 1951. She died in 1971. He later married Loyce Gunter in 1974. Mr. Cross was an auto mechanic for Ada Ford until his retirement. He moved to Texas where he was employed as a welder until retirement. He then moved back to Allen in 1990. Mr. Cross was a member of Richmond Avenue Free Will Baptist Church and had served in the U. S. Army as a paratrooper.
Survivors include his wife, Loyce Cross, of the home; two sons, Randy Cross and his wife Dianne of Allen and Lynn Cross and his wife Ramona of Atwood; a niece, Marlene Hopper and her husband Mike of Allen; a step-daughter, Wilda Anderson and her husband Craig of Wichita Falls, TX; a daughter-in-law, Darla Cross of El Reno, OK; brothers, Mike Cross, Wayne Cross and Haskell Cross, all of Hinton, Leo Cross of Thomas, and Bennie Bryant of McAlester; sisters, Loretta Hughey of Ada, Darlene Garren of Weatherford, and Joyce Bryant of Allen; grandchildren, Brian Cross, El Reno, Lori Eaton, Calumet, Robert Cross and wife Cheryl and Steven Cross, both of Wichita Falls, TX, Craig Cross and wife Lacie and Ashley Cross, both of Atwood and Felicia LaFerry, Ada; 8 great grandchildren; 22 nieces and nephews; and many other friends and church family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Bobby Dale Cross; a step-son, James LaCaze; a sister, Luella Ingram; and two brothers, Chester Lee Cross and Homer Cross.
Bearers will be Mike Hopper, Mike Walston, Duane Fenwick, Justin Bryant, Roy Lee Scott and Shawn Cross. Honorary bearers will be Phil Meyer, Bennie Bryant, Red Huffstutlar, Donnie Huffstutlar, Curtis Hughey, Paul Ingram, J. B. Owens, Steven Dobbins, Eugene Sanders, Louis Jarrett, Frank Griffin, Harold Akins and James Jackson.
The family says those who wish may make memorial contributions to Richmond Avenue Free Will Baptist Church, 407 E. Lexington, Allen, OK 74825.
