IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Richard Dwight
Webb
November 10, 1944 – May 29, 2023
Richard Dwight Webb
In the small town of Fitzhugh, Oklahoma, Richard Webb was born to Dema Alice Killian and Comer Haskell Webb. He was the seventh and last child born, preceded by Phillip, Jimmy, Barbara, Margaret Ann, Wiley, and Linda Kay. He was spoiled by pretty much everyone because he was the 'baby' of the family. His oldest sister Barbara took especially good care of him. Growing up, Richard loved sports and listened to the St. Louis Cardinals on the radio, becoming a life long Mighty, Mighty Cardinals fan! Later he played basketball and baseball for Fitzhugh High School. After working for a few years out of school, Richard's friend set him up on a blind date. That is how he met his wife of 57 years, Linda Gayle Fox. Linda was a fiery red-head who was attending Roff High School, about five miles from Fitzhugh. After several dates with Richard, Linda was smitten, but her parents were not. She was way too young. After having dated almost a year, the two decided to elope. Linda packed her bags and hid them in a ditch up the road from her house. On their next date, Richard picked her up and they drove to Mexico. They were married on August 8th, 1965 at Nuevo Laredo, Mexico on a Sunday in a small church down by the Rio Grand River. Their runaway elopement is worthy of an adventure novel! When the married couple returned, Linda started her senior year at Roff and Richard joined the National Guard where he served for seven years. He credits that experience with making him a man. After graduation, Linda started working at an Accounting Firm where she quickly moved from secretary to CPA. Richard went to work for a monument company and eventually started his own in 1985. Six years after their wedding date they decided to expand their family. Shelley Gayle was born in 1971 and then a sister followed, Amber Dawn in 1975. The girls did everything with their dad from 'Coon Hunting' to Girl Scout meetings, running to the store for a soda pop, and he never missed a basketball game or school event. Richard was the Best Father and later Grandfather. Shelley moved to Arkansas, graduated from the University of Arkansas and married Brian Kevin Turner. They have three kids, Victor Blake, Beau Bryson, and Brynlee Paige. Following in her sister's footsteps, Amber also graduated from the University of Arkansas and wed Matthew Aaron Carey. Together they have two daughters, Hadley Grace and Harper London. Richard and Linda have traveled all over to follow grandkids around. From Bentonville Arkansas, Jackson Wyoming, San Jose California, Atlanta Georgia, Cabo San Lucas Mexico, Falfurrias Texas just to name a few. As a grandpa, Richard got to share his love of deer hunting not only with his sons-in-law, but with his grandkids. After retiring, Richard kept busy breeding cattle and working on his land. He raised catfish in his ponds, fed turkeys and deer, and built a hunting cabin for he and the grandkids to enjoy. He always had a four legged friend following him around, as his last little furry buddy was Lucy May that he got from the pound after telling Linda that he may have fallen in love with another red head. When Richard married Linda, he gained one more brother and sister. Jack and Judy Hisle. Sharing a love of all things Basketball, Judy and he loved recapping the games. Jack and Richard were always up to something; like cheating at the couples' card games, fishing, talking tractors and were the best of friends. Their daughters Natalie and Lorna took the best care of Richard right up until the end. He was great uncle to their sons Jude, Jaxon, Spencer, and Mason. Richard was extremely proud to be an Okie. Months ago when asked his address, he said Fitzhugh, Oklahoma-you know the only state there is as far as I'm concerned. Richard lived his whole life just 2 miles from where he was born. He had a true love and adoration of music, and was proud of the fact that Audie Murphy (most decorated soldier in WW2, and later turned Hollywood actor) was his first cousin. Although he didn't love traveling the last several years, Richard followed everyone's locations on his phone. So at any given time, he knew where every grandkid and daughter was. It was a wonderful way for him to stay connected to his family. Sadly, he outlived all of his siblings, except his oldest sister Barbara, and many wonderful friends. Richard, a member of the Church of Christ passed away early on Memorial Day, which for a monument worker by trade was only fitting, as he had spent most of his adult life crafting headstones for families. He was a great husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend—a real character until the very end and he will be terribly missed by all those who knew him.
A visitation and gathering will be held from 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. Saturday, June 3, 2023 at Criswell Funeral Home.
