Richard Ross
Richard Ross, age 92, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a remarkable legacy of service, education, adventure, and devotion to family.
Born on October 12, 1933, Richard dedicated himself early to serving his country. He proudly served for four years in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict and aboard the USS Yorktown. His military service was a source of great pride.
Following his naval service, Richard pursued his passion for education. He attended Murray State College, East Central University, and the University of Oklahoma, believing deeply in the value of education and lifelong learning.
Richard began his teaching career in 1960 in Douglas, Wyoming. His passion for education took him across the globe, teaching and serving in diverse communities including Hobbs, New Mexico; Majuro, Marshall Islands; and Dhahran, Saudi Arabia.
Eventually, Richard returned to Oklahoma, where he served students and families at McLish School. In 1970, Richard joined the Ada School System, where he became a respected educator and administrator. In 1977, he moved into the central office as an administrative assistant while continuing to teach. Later that year, he became a full-time administrative assistant to Superintendent Max Skelton. In 1980, Richard was appointed Assistant Superintendent of Ada Schools, serving under Superintendent Zane Bowman. His leadership and commitment to public education helped shape the lives of countless students, teachers, and families throughout his career.
On April 7, 1961, Richard married the love of his life, Lois (Moore) Ross. Their journey together spanned more than six decades and included two children, six grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren as well as travels, friendships, and experiences across the United States and around the world.
He leaves behind a legacy of educational excellence, public service, music, and enduring friendships that will continue to inspire all who knew him.
Richard leaves behind his children Randall Ross and wife, Debra and Nancy (Ross) Logan and husband, David. Grandchildren: Melanie Briggs and husband, Kirt, Justin Logan, Cortney Jordan and husband, Josh, Rylan Ross, Hunter Ross and wife, Stormey, and Elian Ross. Great-Grandchildren: Zoe Logan, Caleb Jordan, and Conner Jordan.
Graveside service will be held at Rosedale Cemetery Thursday, June 18, 2026 at 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations in his memory to be made to Ada City Schools for the Camp Goddard Memorial Fund. Send donations to PO Box 1359, Ada, OK 74821.
