RICHARD DAVENPORT
NORMAN-Services for Richard Wirt Davenport, 72, of Norman, formerly of Ada, are 2:00 p.m. Thursday at the Criswell Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. John Haynes will officiate. The burial will precede the funeral service at Rosedale Cemetery.
Mr. Davenport died Saturday, March 9, 2013 at his home. He was born April 27, 1940 at Mt. Vernon, Texas to Lawrence and Sarah Campbell Davenport. He attended school at Gainesville, TX. He graduated from East Central State College.
He married Mary Ellen Alletag August 1965 in Ada. Mr. Davenport taught one year at Ada High School and two years at Lake Highlands High School in the Richardson, Texas school district. He was employed for 35 years with State Farm Insurance Company as a Commercial Fire Underwriter.
After returning to Ada he became involved in the Ada Artists Association, serving as the president for a time. He served on the East Central University Foundation, was of the Baptist faith, and had served in the Oklahoma National Guard, being honorably discharged as a First Lieutenant.
Survivors include two sons, Lee Davenport and wife Dr. Amy Davenport and their daughter, Zoey of Norman, and Dr. John Davenport and his wife Chelsey and their son, Shelby of Stillwater, OK.
