ORVILLE ASHCRAFT

ADA-Services for Orville Eugene Ashcraft, 79, Ada, are 2:00 p.m. Monday at the Criswell Funeral Home Chapel, Dr. George Warren will officiate. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3:00 until 5:00 p.m. Sunday at Criswell Funeral Home.

Mr. Ashcraft died suddenly Thursday, September 4, 2008 at a local hospital. He was born February 3, 1929 at Shawnee, Oklahoma to Jack A. and Alma B. Carter Ashcraft. He attended Harrison Elementary in Shawnee and graduated from Shawnee High School. He received a Bachelor's Degree from East Central University, a Master's Degree from Central State University in Edmond, and did advanced studies at the University of Oklahoma and Penn State University. He moved to Ada in 1950 from Shawnee.

He married Annelle McKendree in 1952 at Ada, Oklahoma. Mr. Ashcraft was a Coach and Elementary Principal from 1954 until 1961 at Prague, from 1961 to 1966, he was a Counselor at Carl Albert High School in Midwest City, from 1970 until 1988, he served as Counselor for Centennial School District, Backs County, PA. Mr. Ashcraft was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Ada, a 32nd degree Mason, a member of the Ada Shriners, the American Legion, and was a member of the Ada Rotary Club. He served in the U. S. Army from 1947 until 1949.

After retiring from school, he did personalized pen and ink drawings of homes, churches, and businesses. Orville was a master wood craftsman, who specialized in creating carousel rocking horses, in addition to furniture and custom carvings.

Survivors include his wife, Annelle Ashcraft, of the home; two sons, Jack Olin Ashcraft and wife Sandy, Gilbertsville, PA, and John Carter Ashcraft, Allen, Texas.

He was preceded in death by a son, Michael Earl Ashcraft.

Bearers will be Jack Ashcraft, Bob Bruening, Olin Carter, Larry Feist, Mark Carter, Matt Carter, and Jim Matthews.

The family says those who wish may make memorials to the Fellowship Sunday School Class, c/o the First United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 566, Ada, OK 74821.
