ORVAL PRICE

ADA-Services for Orval Price, 87, Ada, are 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Criswell Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. Jasper Ligon will officiate. Burial will follow at Rosedale Cemetery.

Mr. Price died Friday, January 25, 2008 at his home. He was born September 6, 1920 at Duncan, Oklahoma to Joe and Jessie Leora Rains Price. He attended Wayne and Ada schools and graduated from Ada High School in 1939. He attended East Central University for two years prior to going into the Army during World War II. He was a Staff Sergeant in the 770th Ordnance Company, 70th Infantry Division, serving in England, France and Germany.

He married Dorothy Witherspoon on December 14, 1941. She preceded him in death July 8, 2007 at Ada. They were married for 65 years. Mr. Price was co-owner of Price and Todd Construction Company in Ada. He and his company built many homes, the Boswell Chapel, the back part of the Memorial Student Union, and the Police Building at East Central University. He developed the Orval Price and Dorothy Price housing additions in Ada. In 1957, he became co-owner of Witherspoon Finance Company along with his wife Dorothy. He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Ada for many years and taught 5th grade Sunday School for several years. He served as Chairman of the church's Board of Trustees and on the building committee responsible for a major portion of the existing church complex. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club and President of the Ada Tennis Club for 20 years. He was Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Chamber of Commerce. He was also Chairman of the Board of Valley View Regional Hospital. He was instrumental in constructing the Ada Tennis Center, and was a tennis player nearly all his adult life until the age of 85.

Survivors include two daughters, Nancy Allen and husband Arnold, Ada, and Susan Files and husband Alvin, Ada; grandsons, David Goodrich and wife Amber, Santa Fe, New Mexico; and Scott Files and Molly Macy, Salem, Oregon; a step-grandson, James Allen, Ada; a granddaughter, Meredith Files, Yuma, Arizona; and a great grandson, Sebastian Phoenix Files, Salem, Oregon.

He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy, his parents, Jessie Leora Rains and Joe Price, brothers, Wendell Price and wife Edith, and Condon Price, sisters, Gertie Lee and husband Ray Long, Thelma and husband Otho Chambers, Mary Nell Price, Eunice Price, and an infant grandson, Matthew Alvin Files.

Bearers will be Alvin Files, Arnold Allen, John Turner, Zane Bowman, Bill Nelson, and Bob Payne.

The family says those who wish may make memorials to the Ada High School Tennis Program c/o Skip Griese; or the East Central University Tennis Program c/o Charlie Hibbard, the ECU tennis coach.
