NORMAN DUNCAN
ADA-Services for Norman Vincent Duncan, 93, of Ada, are 2:00 p.m. Monday at the Southwest Church of Christ, Floyd Kaiser will officiate. Burial will follow at Vamoosa Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted by the Chickasaw Nation Honor Guard at the cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Sunday at Criswell Funeral Home.
Mr. Duncan died Thursday, February 7, 2013 at a local nursing home. He was born August 31, 1919 in Barnsdall, Oklahoma to Jessie Clement Duncan and Mary Edna Huff Duncan.
He married Anna Marie Martin on December 21, 1941 at Konawa, Oklahoma. She preceded him in death on March 17, 2001. He was a long time member of the Church of Christ. Mr. Duncan retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone Company where he worked for 36 years from 1945 until 1981. He helped serve at the Ada Nutrition Center. Mr. Duncan enlisted in the U.S. Army on January 8, 1938 and served during World War II with Headquarter Co. 179th Infantry that was a part of all five amphibious landings. He was a member of Company F when they captured the Comiso Airfield. He served 286 combat days until his discharge on June 26, 1945. He was awarded the Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster, five Battle Stars, American Defense Service Ribbon, American Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge 1st award; EAME Service Ribbon with Silver Service Star, Honorable Service Lapel Button WWII, Marksman Badge with Rifle Bar, and the Good Conduct Medal.
Survivors include a son, Norman "Pete" Duncan and wife Jackie, of Ada; a daughter, Peggy Walker Carder and husband Stephen, of Denton , Texas; five grandchildren, Rolanda Ann Smith and husband Ron, of Shawnee, Oklahoma, Karen Marie Duncan of Ada; Barbara Kay Seals and husband Reggie, of Ada; Justin Lee Walker, of Denton, Texas and John Anthony Walker of Denton, Texas; seven great-grandchildren, Kalie Potter, of Oklahoma City; Cole Potter, of Ada; Bryce Smith, of Edmond, Oklahoma; Geordan Vincent Smith of Shawnee, Oklahoma, Deion Seals, Delanie Seals and Jackie Seals of Ada; two sisters Noma Tate of Durant, Oklahoma and Wilda Bell of Midwest City, Oklahoma.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jessie and Mary Duncan; his wife Anna Duncan; one sister Della Ash; two brothers, Sidney Duncan and Ellsworth Duncan.
Pallbearers are Ron Smith, Bryce Smith, Geordan Smith, Reggie Seals, Cole Potter, and Justin Walker.
