NELL SHAW
STONEWALL-Services for Nell Truitt Shaw, 90, Stonewall, are 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at Stonewall First Baptist Church, Revs. Gary Jamar and Ed Blackledge, and Mr. Clem McSpadden officiating. Burial follows at Highland Cemetery, Stonewall. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Monday at Criswell Funeral Home.
Mrs. Shaw died on Friday, January 4, 2008, at a local hospital. She was born September 3, 1917, at Stonewall to Wayne and Minnie Gresham Truitt. She graduated from Stonewall high school and attended East Central University for three years. She taught school and also owned a café in Stonewall for many years. She was a member of Stonewall First Baptist Church, where she was the chairman of the Benevolence Committee and also taught Sunday School for 21 years. She served on the Rodeo Historical Committee and was an avid basketball and rodeo fan. At the age of 89, making good a promise to ride with a former Sunday School student when he received his pilot license, she rode in a small airplane. On her 90th birthday, she rode on a Harley Davidson with friends.
She married Everett Shaw on February 13, 1936, in Coalgate. He preceded her in death on November 7, 1979, in Oklahoma City.
Survivors include a daughter, Mary Sue Worrell and her husband Sonny, Altoona, KS; a sister, Mary Durbin, Lindsay, OK; 2 granddaughters, Beverly Taulman and her husband Gene, Maramec, OK; and Kelly Reynolds and her husband Lewis, Stonewall, OK; a grandson, Neil Worrell and his wife Valerie, Altoona, KS; 1 great granddaughter, Cacee Sue Taulman, Maramec, OK; 1 great grandson, Colby Worrell, Altoona, KS; two step great granddaughters, Kerri Hooser and her husband Darrel, Allen, OK; and Vicki Brogden and her husband Jesse, Konawa, OK; 3 step great grandsons, Joey Gastineau. Allen, OK; Robert McMillin, Allen, OK and Matthew Brogden, Konawa; great great granddaughters, McKenzie Brogden, Konawa, OK; and MaKayla Brogden, Konawa, OK; nephews, Richard Truitt and his wife Janet, Stonewall, OK; Harrison Durbin and his wife Mavis, Oil City, PA; and Robert Pickens and his wife Sharon, Tupelo, OK; two nieces, Dixie Wheaton and her husband Lee, Mounds, OK; and Suzie Virgin, Valliant, OK; grand nephews, Jimmie Truitt, Stonewall, OK; Everett Pickens, Tupelo; OK; and Rusty Pickens, Tulepo, OK; grand nieces, Trula Churchill and her husband Linn, Valentine, NE; Emily Iggalden and her husband Roy, Stoughton, MA; Stacy Criswell and her husband John, Chicago, IL; Deena Wheaton, Mounds, OK. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, Charley "Fat" Truitt, Jimmie Lee "Dick" Truitt, and sisters, Opal Slocum and Pearl "Peggy" Thomas.
Bearers are Bill Newport, Mike Newport, Frank Patton, Bob Byrd, Terry Kenyon and Pake McEntire. Honorary bearers are Max Kenyon, Clark McEntire, Lee Sweat, Bob Newport, Kenneth Murphy, Gary Coffee, Roy Wofford, James Lackey and Bob Langley.
The family says those who wish may make memorials to the Cowboy Hall of Fame (Rodeo Historical Society), in Oklahoma City or to the Stonewall First Baptist Church for Falls Creek Scholarships.
