Nathan Harjo

Services for Nathan Fredrick Harjo, 66, Konawa, are 10:00 a.m. Monday at the Criswell Funeral Home Chapel, Pastors Larry Harrison, Fred Lowe and Mickey Hill will officiate. Burial will follow at Vamoosa Cemetery. A Wake service will be 5:00 p.m. Sunday at Johnson Chapel Church.

Mr. Harjo passed away January 24, 2018 at an Ada hospital. He was born December 9, 1951 at Ada to Sissie Burgess Harjo. He graduated from Konawa High School.

He married Julia Belle Walton July, 1977 in Ada. Mr. Harjo worked for the Seminole Nation as a CHR, brick layer and Security Guard and also a Security Guard for the Creek Nation Clinic in Coweta. He was an Associate member of Johnson Chapel Church and a member of the Seminole Arbeka Baptist Church in Konawa. He was a musician for the Gospel Harmonetts gospel group and a bass player for the Harjo Family.

Survivors include his wife, Belle, of the home; two daughters, Melissa Harjo and Tara Baker and her husband Kevin, all of Ada; two grandchildren, Jacy "Chutkee" Harjo and Emily "Wasco" Redbird; his half-brothers and sisters, Nathaniel Roy, Wolf, TX, Tommy Harjo, Choctaw, Douglas Harjo and Jerome Harjo, both of Shawnee, Shawn Harjo, Bristow, Dinah Harjo, Florida, Loretta Harjo, Shawnee, Tammy Gribble, Oklahoma City, Cheryl Laskey and Valerie Thomas, both of Shawnee; a cousin, Lewis Carpitche of Konawa; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother; maternal grandparents, Jim and Emma Davis; an aunt, Effie Burgess; uncle, Noah Sonny Burgess; and a grandson, Eli Harjo.

Bearers will be James Major McHenry, B. J. Leach, James "Major" McHenry, Brandon Miller, Ronnie Miller, Patrick Holden, Jr. Harjo and Jeremy Redbird. Honorary bearers are Al Brown, Charles McHenry and Son McHenry.
