NANNIE WINCHESTER
ADA-Services for Nannie Lee Winchester, 93, Ada, are 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Criswell Funeral Home Chapel, Revs. John Haynes and Jim Reynolds will officiate. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mrs. Winchester died Sunday, August 22, 2010 at a Stillwater nursing home. She was born October 17, 1916 at Blair, Oklahoma to Henry and Myrtle Chaney Stidham. She was raised in Jackson County, attended school in Martha, Oklahoma and graduated from Martha High School. She received a Bachelor of Science degree from Central State College (now the University of Central Oklahoma) in Edmond and a Master's degree from East Central University in Ada.
She married Elwood Winchester on October 2, 1948 at Norman. They lived in Prague, Okemah, Beggs, McAllen, Texas and Weleetka before moving to Ada in 1969. Mrs. Winchester was a classroom teacher and a counselor for 35 years until retiring in 1978. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Ada and was active in the church music programs including participation in the Mature Melody Makers. She was a charter member of the Ada Prime Timers and helped organize and deliver "Meals on Wheels" where she delivered meals for many years. Mr. and Mrs. Winchester were active with the Ada Hobos, Inc.
Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Elwood Winchester, of the home; a daughter, Judy Ray and husband Joe, Stillwater; a son, Teddy Winchester, Yorba Linda, CA; a brother, James L. Stidham, Dumas, TX; brother-in-law, Jim Winchester and wife Edith, Clovis, CA; one grandson, Taylor Winchester and wife Jenna, Yorba Linda, CA; a granddaughter, Sarah Winchester, New York, NY; two great grandchildren, Dylin and Derek Winchester, Yorba Linda, CA; and 15 nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Stidham of Blair; four brothers, Delmer Stidham, Neal Stidham, Carl Stidham, and Wayne Stidham; one sister, Margaret Wertschnig, five sisters-in-law, Cecile, Annagail, Ethel and Fern Stidham and Carmen Moore; two brothers-in-law, Martin Wertschnig and Earl Moore.
