Myria Gibson

Viewing for Myria Ettie Gibson, 68, of Ardmore, formerly of Stonewall will be from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. Saturday, at the First Baptist Church in Ardmore. A private funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday, January 25, 2021 at the Criswell Funeral Home Chapel in Ada, where the service will be live-streamed. Dr. Alton Fannin will officiate. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery, Stonewall.

Myria Ettie Gibson passed away on Wednesday, January 20, 2021. Myria was born to W.A. and Lilly Cannon in Sayre, Oklahoma, on December 31, 1952. Myria and Norman Scott Gibson were married in Ada, Oklahoma, on May 31, 1975.

Scott and Myria settled in the Ardmore area in 1981. Myria worked for Ardmore City Schools for several years. Later, while working two jobs and caring for her family, Myria returned to East Central University and obtained a Master's degree in counseling. She later became a Licensed Professional Counselor and established her own practice at Gibson Counseling Services. Myria dedicated the last two decades to advocating for children and adults who have experienced trauma and helping them to find a new path forward. As part of her practice, Myria worked closely with the Carter County Multidisciplinary Team and Sara's Project to protect the children of her community. Myria was honored for her work by receiving Outstanding Multidisciplinary Team Member Award from the C/SARA Foundation in 2009 and the Mitch Sperry Legacy award in 2016. In her free time, Myria enjoyed working in her yard and garden. She was always looking for ways to create beauty for others. Most of all, Myria loved her family. Myria and Scott raised two daughters, Sara and Hilary. Myria especially enjoyed her time with her granddaughters.

Myria was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Kay Wynn. She is survived by her husband, Scott, daughter Sara Gibson of Edmond, daughter and son-in-law Hilary and Jerrod Smith of Edmond, and granddaughters Piper, Etta Kate, and Arden. She is also survived by brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Elizabeth Cannon of Ada, brother Joe Cannon of Fittstown, sister and brother-in-law Marsha and Gary Allmon of Sulphur, brother-in-law Wendell Wynn of Ada, and many nieces and nephews.

Honorary bearers will be Kris Lynch, Kyle Lynch and Steve Barbour.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in honor of Myria Gibson to Sara's Project (C/SARA), P. O. Box 1396, Ardmore, OK 73402.
