MONTY SECKINGER
ADA-Graveside services for Monty Joe Seckinger, 66, of Ada, are 10:00 a.m. Friday at Oakman Cemetery, Rev. Bob Langston will officiate. The Chickasaw Honor Guard will conduct military honors at the cemetery.
Mr. Seckinger died Saturday, September 29, 2012 at his home. He was born January 18, 1946 at Colbert, Oklahoma to Edward Mack and Ora Lurine Vaughn Moore and was later adopted by Leonard Seckinger.
Mr. Seckinger was a self-employed heavy equipment operator. He was a lifetime member of the Operating Engineers, and a member of the Free Masons and a 32 degree Mason. Mr. Seckinger was an avid hunter and fisherman.
He had served in the U. S. Navy during the Vietnam War from August 12, 1964 until being honorably discharged as a Gunners Mate Third Class on August 11, 1970. Mr. Seckinger received the National Defense Service Ribbon, Viet-Nam Service Medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal Vietnam, and the V for Valor for courage under fire. He served on the River Squadron FIVE, a River Patrol Boat. The squadron started in 1966 and the primary mission was to prevent the movement, infiltration, and resupply of the Viet Cong, colloquially referred to as "Charlie", within the rivers and waterways of South Vietnam. During the war, he actively participated in naval operations designed to aid the South Vietnamese in maintaining control of their rivers and associated waterways. He was a member of the River Squadron FIVE operating River Patrol Boats (PBRs) from October 23, 1967 until October 9, 1968. He participated in 230 patrols in areas where enemy hostile fire was imminent. These patrols included many highly dangerous night patrols. He was under hostile fire on 7 patrols. Mr. Seckinger was presented with a Certificate of River War Service by the Lieutenant, U.S. Navy Commander, River Division FIVE NINE TWO.
Survivors include a son, Monty William Seckinger of Oklahoma City; a daughter, Michelle Edenstrom of Moore; three granddaughters, Brittany Foos, Tiffany Foos, and Hailey Edenstrom; a sister, Martha Alice Seckinger of Konawa; and a brother, Marty Rae Seckinger of Konawa.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Carrell Vaughn Moore, Floyd Seckinger and Jimmy Don Seckinger; a sister, Linda Seckinger; and a daughter, Monica Seckinger.
