PETE LINDLEY

CALVIN-Graveside services for Miles Clifford "Pete" Lindley, Jr., 85, of Calvin are 10:00 a.m. Friday at the Calvin Cemetery, Walter Kuhlman will officiate.

Mr. Lindley died Wednesday, May 21, 2008 at a McAlester hospital. He was born July 20, 1922 at Lamar, Oklahoma to Miles Clifford and Priscilla Cosper Lindley. He lived in Hughes County most of his life and graduated from Calvin High School. He received Bachelor's and Master's Degrees from East Central University.

He married Leola Medford October, 1947. Mr. Lindley was a math teacher and school administrator at Bethel Hill in Pittsburg County and at Moss. He was also a farmer and rancher and co-founder of Home Gas Company in Calvin. Mr. Lindley was of the Baptist faith and was a lifelong member of the Democratic Party. He served in the U. S. Army in Japan during World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Leola Lindley, of the home; two sons, Clifford Lindley and wife Janis, Moss, and Harry Lindley and wife Peggy, McAlester; a daughter, Jayne Mays and husband Mike, Calvin; three sisters, Linda Sue Hardage, Enid, Wanda Collins and husband Elmer Lee, Norman, and Christine Johnson; a brother, Elvin Lindley, Stuart; grandchildren, Wes and Randa Lindley, and Mike and Tracy Lindley; and three great grandchildren, Sammy, Nolan, and Haddie.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Joy Smith and Hazel Elliott; and a brother, Paul Melvin Lindley.

Bearers will be Wesley Lindley, Michael Lindley, Warren Lindley, Stephen Lindley, Robert Carlton, and Edmond Perkins. Honorary bearers will be Johnny Lindley, James Morgan, Benny Mathis, Leroy Dunn, and Marlin Elliott.
