MILDRED WHITAKER
ALLEN-Services for Mildred Edgar Whitaker, 93, of Allen are 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at the Allen High School Auditorium, Gene Williams will officiate. Burial will follow at the Allen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Criswell Chapel in Allen.
Mrs. Whitaker died Saturday, August 4, 2012 at her home. She was born August 17, 1918 in Jonesboro, Arkansas to Grover Edgar and Alice Cole Edgar. They came by train to Oklahoma and lived near her grandparents at Cole Corner, Oklahoma. She attended school at Cole Corner and graduated at the age of 15 from Morris High School in 1934.
She married Harley Lee Whitaker on April 23, 1938. He preceded her in death on April 5, 1984. Mrs. Whitaker was a homemaker, cook and seamstress including making 2 wedding dresses.
Survivors include five of her seven children and 14 of 15 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren. They include her sons, Don Whitaker and his former wife Cindy, Spring, TX and his children, Travis, Zachary and Megan; Tom Whitaker and his wife Janice and his children, Julissa, Diron, and Damon and grandchildren, Luke and Judah; her daughters, Shirley Whitaker, Holdenville; Judy James and husband Richard of New Braunfels, TX and her sons, Chris and Kyle; and Mary Wade of Allen, and her daughter Dustye Wade, and grandchildren, Halye and Harley; grandsons, Clark Whitaker and his wife Joy and his children, James, Sara, Rylee and Trent and his grandchildren Kayleigh, Mackensie and Hunter; and Charles Whitaker of Desoto, TX and his son Alexander; granddaughters, Robin Whitaker and her daughter, Jackie Ashley, Tulsa; Kelly Johnson and husband Dave and her sons, Cole Whitaker of Colorado and Curtis Taylor of Okmulgee; and Alissa Whitaker of DeSoto, TX; great granddaughters, Tia and Ricca Ward, Red Oak, TX; a brother, Ralph Edgar, Bryan, TX; and a sister-in-law, Roma Whitaker, Oklahoma City.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harley Lee Whitaker; sons, James Lee Whitaker and Jerry Whitaker; and granddaughter, Kanna Ward; a brother, Robert Edgar; and sisters, Ruby Edgar, Edna Elberts and Ozene Gilmoure.
Bearers will be her grandsons, Clark Whitaker, Travis Whitaker, Zachary Whitaker, Diron Whitaker, Chris James and Kyle James. Honorary bearers will be James Whitaker, Damon Whitaker, Curtis Whitaker and Cole Whitaker.
