MELVINA WRIGHT
ROFF- Services for Melvina Horton Wright, 86, Plano, Texas, are 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Criswell Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. Tony Folger will officiate. Family and friends may call, for visitation, Saturday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Criswell Funeral Home.
Mrs. Wright died Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2014, in Plano, Texas. She was born Nov. 12, 1927, in Olustee, to Yancy C. Horton and Velma Gaar Horton. She attended Byng Schools.
She married Thurman H. Wright on Feb. 19, 1958, at Dickso, Texas. He died Feb. 18, 2009. Mrs. Wright attended nursing school and was a L.P.N. at Valley View Regional Hospital and worked for several doctors including, Dr. John B. Morey, Dr. E.R. Muntz, Dr. J.B. Wallace and Dr. Orange Welborn. She and Mr. Thurman had lived in Oklahoma, Texas and Louisiana while Mr. Thurman worked for Brown & Root. She was a Girl Scout leader and volunteer and was a nurse at Tiak Girl Scout summer camps. Mrs. Horton was a member of the Roff First Baptist Church where she taught children's Sunday School classes and helped with vacation Bible school.
Survivors include one daughter, J'Neena Swinney and husband Russell of Plano, Texas; one son, Rod Horton and wife Barbara of Ft. Worth, Texas; four grandchildren, Garrett Swinney, Jessica Swinney, Rodney Horton, Jr. and Shawna Watson and husband Tom; three great-grandchildren, Ashley Horton, Alyssa Horton and Kylie Chaplin; and one great-great-grandchild Colt Horton.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thurman Wright, and one sister, Geneal Horton Sines.
