Melvin Worcester
Services for Melvin Jackson Worcester, 88, of Ada were 10:00 a.m. Friday at the Criswell Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. Shawn Wiebers officiated. Burial followed at Denny Cemetery. The Chickasaw Honor Guard will conduct military honors at the cemetery.
Mr. Worcester died Wednesday, October 14, 2015 at the Sulphur Veterans Center. He was born November 17, 1926 at Byrd's Mill to Arlington Telle "Cub" Worcester and Nora Mae Colbert Worcester. He attended Pontotoc schools.
He married Opal Alene Yates February 2, 1950 in Durant. She preceded him in death in May 19, 2007. Mr. Worcester was a saddle bronc rider in his younger years and later a heavy equipment operator and also a deputy sheriff for Pontotoc County. Mr. Worcester served as the Commissioner of the Chickasaw Housing for many years and had served in the U. S. Army with the 2nd Armored Division during World War II.
Survivors include his four sons, Kevin Worcester and wife Lynn, Matthew Worcester and wife Shelli, Sean Worcester and Terry Worcester and wife Lora, all of Ada; two daughters, Staci Worcester of Ada and Sharon Smart and husband Rick of Wewoka; a brother, D. D. Worcester, Lone Grove; his grandchildren, Timothy Kevin Worcester, Michaela Barger, Daniel Worcester, Nathaniel Worcester, Stephanie Ivy, Becky Worcester, Sarah Smith, Thomas Worcester, Jr., Sierra Worcester, Britany Journey, Ashli Worcester and Matison Worcester.
He was preceded in death by a son, Thomas Worcester; a granddaughter, Britani Worcester; and three brothers, Nick Worcester, Norman Worcester and Cecil "Butch" Worcester.
Bearers will be Weldon Fulsom, Kenny Hulsey, Roy Worcester, Danny Worcester, Larry Colbert, Nathaniel Worcester and Rick Smart.
